Company Background

MAIN architects is an architectural studio created as a result of long-term friendship and professional cooperation between two founders Marko Matejić and Nikola Ivković. The two founding architects began their friendship while studying at the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Belgrade. They completed their studies in 2009 under the supervision of Professor Branislav Mitrović, with whom they continued collaborating at MITarh studio for a year. Afterward, their professional careers developed in different ways in the following period.

Marko started his Ph.D. studies and worked at the Faculty of Architecture as a teaching assistant for the next three years. During that period and in the following years, in the period from 2010-2013, he also worked as a freelance architect focusing on smaller projects in Serbia, but also housing projects in the USA.

During his studies and after graduation, Nikola worked at the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments in Belgrade, for a total of 3 years, in the period 2007-2010. After that, he spent six years in PMC engineering, in the period 2010-2016.

At the beginning of 2016, these two architects joined their professional knowledge by working on residential projects in the USA. The first project in Serbia they collaborated on was a family villa in Senjak, which was designed in 2015/2016 and built in 2017. For this project, they received a commendation at the Salon of Architecture in the interior category in 2018, together with Ivana Tijanić and Vanja Paunović.

In September 2017, they founded MAIN Architects, and three years after, they founded MAIN Architects LTD.

MAIN Architects team consists of 14 architects and a broad network of permanent external associates, from different fields. The MAIN Architects studio operates in product design, interior design, architecture and urban planning. Our portfolio includes projects varying in program and size – residential, office space, hospitality, culture, industry and others.
